my little sparky

gideon’s award ceremony for awana’s was last night.  we live right down the street from calvary chapel.  it’s been right handy to drop him off there wednesday nights and let him hang out with the unwashed masses without his mother.  i think he’s the only kid who shows up with his vest buttoned.  because i button it.

gideon worked really hard and breezed through his book and his extra credit book.  he is very proud of his sparky pin.  i think all in all he memorized 42 verses this year.

at first i was skeptical of a program that gives you awards for memorizing the bible.  (my dad always said that was bad.)  but i do love the accountability it provides for working through scripture and i love how it fills him up.  he’s always bursting out into very bad, loud and toneless songs such as; “jesus christ is god’s son!  jesus christ is the savior of the wooooorrrlld!  greeeeaaaaaaaaat is our loooorrrd and mighty in power!”  he sounds like a street side evangelist.  if he had any friends he would creep them out in a second.  especially with his rendition of, “if you sin just one sin, you are guilty of all!”  it’s awesome.

and here he is with who we fondly refer to as the “other gideon.”  gideon has decided that the other gideon must be his friend by merit of sharing the same name.  he’s pretty much turned stalker.  i help him out.  for instance, i saw a kid i liked on an opposing soccer team a month ago.  i talked to our coach, got the team name, looked them up on the schedule, found where they played, tracked down his parents, exchanged emails….  just be glad i’m not your mother.  or else i would button up your vest and pick your friends too.

I am very impressed with your learning skills Gideon. I think you are a very bright boy who will do well in school. Memorizing is a skill that is best developed when you are young and you will find it be very useful as you get older. You look very nice in your vest, by the way. I used to dress Uncle Reuben when he was little and now your mom wishes she could dress him. Sure is nice having a mommy around to take care of us. I really liked the flowers you and Jehu and Jael picked out too.

Memorizing is a good skill. Especially if you send his butt to public school. They don’t do much there.
