a tour!

of my house.  now isn’t that excitement.  it isn’t very big and a little on the stark side.  but i do have plans (evil plans).

[blip.tv ?posts_id=1693290&dest=-1]

after watching this i realized that i smack a little of harpie, english may have been my second language, and that i left out a bunch of stuff.  fortunately, you aren’t that interested in the fact that someone sawed all the door moldings off two inches from the floor and that i am going to have to replace them all someday.  as it is, while eating breakfast i just end up staring at them in horror.  the nerve, how could they?

p.s.  the fabric swatch preceding the video is what i am thinking of paneling my new cupboard doors with in the kitchen.  what do you think?

Thanks for the tour. I can sympathize with all your door trouble–we bought our home three years ago and I convinced my husband to take all the doors off the hinges so that I could paint them assembly line style. Worse decision EVER. They have never hung/closed/worked the same since. Sigh.

Thinking of the mental footwork necessary to convince my husband to change the hinges from gold to nickel still gives me palpitations. Doors.

Loved the tour…what a wonderful thing it is to have a grandfather who likes you. 🙂

You are a handy gal, but a handy gal with a lot of work ahead of her! Thanks for the lesson in thankfulness for a finished house. Thanks for the tour; its going to be fabulous.

Love your blog — stumbled across it I have no idea how — wait! It was looking for a Hooter Hider pattern. Anyway, don’t be afraid to hang a big honking picture in your kitchen — it doesn’t look bad and I think actually kinda brightens/enlarges the space. Maybe something vintagey you can find for free at the Library of Congress website? Random, I know, but I’m sure there’s something cool out there.

Mavis — in response to your post about my play kitchen — I’m just like 5’4″, so I have a bit of an advantage. I say we’d draw straws. But I’d either end up gloating a lot or pouting a lot, so maybe we should just resort to the huge kitty fight. Meow!

Wow. You are so good with tools. Sometimes I feel like I’m pretty handy with a hammer and screwdriver but I don’t own a drill or staplegun and pretty much everything you mentioned would be WAY out of the reach of anyone chez Gibbs. I am super impressed by what you’ve done so far and what your future plans are. Oh, and kind of overwhelmed, but I feel that way about all genuine home renovation.

Also, love love love the new kitchen chairs.

oh, i make a point not to be handy. the minute you start opening your own canning jars and hanging your own doors, it’s all down hill. there’s a fine line and i intend to keep it that way. now my mom, she’s handy. she does her own framing, drywall and demolition. that’s because she got tired of waiting for my dad. i will not sink so low. i expect service. fortunately marc is very handy, amazing actually. although he hates to use his skills in so unworthy of a cause (he thinks sheet rock and molding are rank immoral). i promised him that our next home he can build from scratch out of recycled materials and strandboard, and i won’t complain at all. cross my heart.

but i do paint. that is my lot in life i am afraid. it is sooo beneath him.
